Fish, Week 8

This week was Fish week.

Books we read this week:
Big Fish Little Fish- A cute little story that my boys loved.
Fish, Swish, Splash, Dash- A nice counting story always love educational books!
Jonah and the Big Fish- The boys could not get over that a fish swallowed a person!
The Pout Pout Fish-
This was a funny little book and my kids loved hearing me read it over and over again.
The Pout Pout Fish in the Big Big Dark- This wasn't as funny as the first one kinda dumb. The kids liked it because the characters were the same but it wasn't as good as the 1st one.
The Fish Who Cried Wolf- Edward enjoyed this book. As Ed also loves to tell many a story. When he was about four he told me a story that he saw Daddy out the window walking a black dog with some lady. We still laugh about that story.

This is a fishing game I made for the kids. Construction paper, paper clips, stapler, pencils unsharpened, string, and magnets. Cut out construction paper into fish shapes and color to look like fish. Next with the stick-able magnets I cut them and placed them right by the fish's mouth. Next use unsharpened pencils as rods and use a stapler to staple the string to the pencils. Next double knot string to a paper clip. Then let your kids go fishing!!

My kids had so much fun fishing with this game.

He caught another one!
Just like in "real" fishing the boys fishing line got tangled together!!

Edward caught another.

What's this? Daddy had to catch one too. He thought this was an awesome game.

Our craft was making fish bowls. You can find out how to make them here: http://rootsandwingsco.blogspot.com/2009/07/paper-fish-bowl-moible.html

My tips: I used blue plates so all you have to paint is the back. Got these for $1 at Big Lots in the party supply section. I used foam fish and glued them together to make them double sided. I used green pipe cleaners as seaweed. I glued 2 pieces of sandpaper together so its also double sided. I also used fishing line instead of string. I love snagging people's ideas and putting my spin into them. And the above site is great. That girl is creative!!

Lucas loving his fish bowl.

Gluing the top on.

Edward's drying.

Finished project: Lucas' fish bowl.

Edward's finished project.

The following day we made fish bowls out of Jello!!

Buy Blue Jello and Gummy Fishes.

Lucas stirring the Jello.

Pour blue Jello into glasses. Sorry, our dishwasher here sucks and the hard water in FL don't get me started on how embarrassed I am of our foggy glasses.

After Jello is in cups and refrigerated for at least 1 hr then press the Gummy fish into the Jello and place back into fridge.

See all the fish inside the cups swimming?

We also enjoyed snacking on Goldfish Pizza Flavored Crackers on our blue plates.

Yum!! We had a great time exploring fish and eating fish. I am allergic to "real" fish so the crackers and jello were perfect fish for me!!
